About ABLE
How Does ABLE Work?
Throughout the U.S. and Canada volunteer ABLE librarians set up the ABLE collection at dog events. Wherever ABLE is in attendance, you can “exchange” audio books you’ve listened to for others in the collection. Even if you don’t have an audio book to trade in, Live to Run Again (LTRA) encourages you to borrow one for the drive home. The tapes/CDs can then be returned at any location where ABLE is set up or be mailed back to ABLE’s home office.
In order to keep audio books circulating for all to enjoy, LTRA asks you to return the tapes/CDs within a month.
What is ABLE?
Live to Run Again’s ABLE (Audio Book Libraries and Exchange) is a free lending system of audio books offered to participants of competitive canine sports. This national exchange program of book on tapes/CDs aims to help dog enthusiasts stay awake while driving to and from canine events.
A Word of Caution
Listening to audio books does not work as an anti-drowsy strategy for everyone. Falling asleep is involuntary so when you become drowsy you can’t predict or control the “tipping” point from being awake to falling asleep. While driving, if you experience any of the warning signs of fatigue you must take immediate action. The best solution is to STOP and REST so you can Live to Run Again!
